Mr Ibu is Dead – It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who succumbed to cardiac arrest at the age of 62. The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, confirmed the tragic news, revealing that Mr Ibu had experienced a cardiac arrest during the day and, despite being rushed to the hospital, did not survive.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 2, 2023, Rollas expressed profound sorrow for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, noting that the day had also seen the loss of Kate Henshaw’s mother. The announcement cited information from Mr Ibu’s manager of 24 years, Mr Don Single Nwuzor, who reported the unfortunate incident. Rollas conveyed the message, “I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mr Ibu Health Struggles
The actor’s health struggles had become public knowledge in November 2023 when his family sought financial assistance for his medical expenses. Through an Instagram statement, the family revealed that Mr Ibu had undergone seven surgeries, ultimately leading to the amputation of one of his legs to prolong his life. Despite the hardships, the family continued to appeal to Nigerians for support, expressing gratitude for the assistance received and acknowledging the delicate state of Mr Ibu’s health.
