Museveni Appoint his Son Muhoozi – Uganda President Yoweri Museveni made headlines on Thursday night with the appointment of his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the new Chief of Defence Forces. This move came as part of a broader Cabinet reshuffle, which saw the former CDF, General Wilson Mbasu, transition to a Ministerial role.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously served as the Commander of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and as an advisor for special operations to his father, President Museveni. In a statement released by UPDF spokesperson Brigadier General FM Kulayigye, it was announced that Lt General Samuel Okiding would assume the role of Deputy CDF, while Lt General Peter Elwelu, the former deputy CDF, would transition to serving as an advisor to President Museveni. In addition, these changes reflect a strategic realignment within the UPDF hierarchy to ensure effective leadership and operational readiness.

Additionally, Major General Eric Kyanda has been appointed as the new Defence attaché, and Major General Jackson Bakasumba will take on the role of Joint Chief of Staff. These appointments highlight the depth of talent within the UPDF ranks and the commitment to ensuring a well-rounded leadership team.

In recognition of their contributions and achievements, Brigadier General David Mugisha has been promoted to Major General, and Colonel Asaph Nyakyikuru has been elevated to Brigadier General.
