Late Athlete Kelvin Kiptum – The Kenyan government has extended a compassionate gesture by donating Sh10 million to the families of the late Kelvin Kiptum and his coach, Hakizimana. The families, represented by Kiptum’s father, Samson Cheruiyot, Kiptum’s widow, Assenath, and Hakizimana’s widow, Jelimo, expressed their gratitude to the government for the support extended to them during this difficult time. In a touching ceremony, Kiptum was posthumously inducted into the Talanta Hall of Fame, commemorating his remarkable achievements as a promising athlete. Ababu Namwamba, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports, described the induction as a bittersweet moment, symbolizing both pride in Kiptum’s accomplishments and sorrow for his untimely departure. Kiptum, renowned for his marathon record of two hours and 35 seconds, was poised for further success, having recently received ratification from World Athletics. He was set to compete in the Rotterdam Marathon on April 14, with aspirations of breaking the two-hour mark. Additionally, Kiptum harbored dreams of representing Kenya in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, further underscoring his potential as a top-tier athlete.
